The October 2026 First Friday ArtWalk lands on October 2, the last walk of the official May-to-October season, with the theme Theater Collaborations. Same deal as every month: free, self-guided, 5:00 to 9:00 PM across downtown and the Southside, with 31 venues on the official map (per event producer Creative Flagstaff). Here is what is actually happening, with times.
The one-night-only stuff
- Erika Tsouras at Meadowlark Art Studio. The painter and studio founder opens Finding Peace in Times of Conflict, a new collection of colorful abstract paintings on wood that sit with a hard world and reach for connection, healing, balance, and calm. At Meadowlark Art Studio, 115 E Birch Ave, across from the courthouse. More on the artist.
- STEAM Confluence pop-up. Flagstaff STEM City paired local artists with STEM professionals, and each finished piece is inspired by real science, technology, engineering, and math happening in this community. The show pops up at Beyond the Pines, 606 N Beaver St, 5:00 to 8:00 PM. A few blocks north of the core, and worth the walk.
- Opening reception at Open Doors: Art in Action. The nonprofit gallery in the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany's parish hall opens Mental Health: Colors of Well Being, art that brings inner landscapes of struggle, resilience, isolation, and hope into view. Refreshments from 6:00 PM, music by David Seaton 6:00 to 7:00 PM, then a 7:00 PM talk by art therapist Emily Wilson of Illumination Art Therapy. Open Doors is at 423 N Beaver St.
- Water Ethics pop-up at Montgomery & Associates. The Coconino Plateau Watershed Partnership shows artwork and essays from past years of its 4th Grade Water Ethics Contest, plus details on this year's round. Pop-up at 201 E Birch Ave #5, in the same Historic Ice House complex as Bee Balm Studio and Culture Connection AZ.
Getting there without a car
October is the season's final Car-Free First Friday: the Aspen Street block by Heritage Square closes to cars for the night. The Center 2 Center community bike ride gathers at Coconino Center for the Arts at 4:00 PM with free Timberline Ice Cream, then rolls into Heritage Square right at the 5:00 PM start. Party pace, family-friendly, bring layers and lights. It gets dark early now, and it gets cold.
Worth a stop this month
- Phoenix Avenue Gallery on the Southside has a full October slate: glass pendants, panels, and suncatchers by Patricia Kearney, found-object sculpture by Michael Barbaric, new paintings by Frederica Hall, Bill Anderson, and Lisa Pearce, and Bryan Cooperrider's Bottle People.
- The Wild Below stays closed for the fall walks and reopens this winter, even though it is still printed on the official list. Save the candlelit rooms under the Masonic Temple for a colder night.
- Gwendolyn Waring Arts stays on the official map: the painter's Hospital Hill studio and native garden, 412 W Juniper Ave, Colorado Plateau oils by lamplight.
- Arizona Handmade / Fire on the Mountain Gallery on Gallery Row: George Averbeck's blown glass alongside work from more than 60 Arizona artists.
- The Orpheum Theater is on the list, and on a Theater Collaborations night the 1911 house on Aspen is the obvious place to peek in.
After the walk: it is ghost tour season
October in Flagstaff means the Haunted History Ghost Tour from Freaky Foot Tours, the local company that has guided downtown since 2015 and is an official ArtWalk venue itself (120 N San Francisco St, Unit J). On First Friday the tour leaves Wheeler Park, two blocks west of Heritage Square, at 7:00 PM and again at 8:00 PM, 75 minutes of true crime and the Weatherford's resident spirits, from $29. If your group is 18 and up and wants the darker version, Mountain Town of Madness goes out at 9:00 PM from the same park. Both fit neatly after a lap of the galleries. Where to start
Same advice as every month: start at Heritage Square, grab a paper map, then follow Gallery Row down N San Francisco Street and cross the tracks to the Southside when the crowds build. Or skip the paper and use the live map, where every stop above is pinned. And since this is the last confirmed date of 2026: the walk has historically continued through the winter in some form, so check the dates page before you plan November.
