The remaining confirmed Flagstaff First Friday ArtWalk dates for 2026 are July 3, August 7, September 4, and October 2, each running 5:00–9:00 PM in historic downtown Flagstaff (hours current as of June 2026). The event is free, self-guided, and happens the first Friday of every month, with 25+ venues on the official list and more joining month to month. May 1 and June 5 have already come and gone — the full season, themes included, is in the table below.

A couple of these themes land especially well here. August's Art of Dark Skies nods to Flagstaff being the world's first International Dark Sky City, and July's Art & the West fits a downtown that still has Route 66 running through it.
Hours are 5 to 9 PM — ignore the sites that say 6
As of June 2026, the official hours are 5:00 to 9:00 PM. You'll still find pages around the web listing 6 to 9 PM — that was the older schedule, and several well-known sites haven't updated. Showing up at 5 gets you the full four hours and first crack at the galleries.
Plenty of stops don't shut down at 9, either. Bars and breweries on the route — Hops on Birch, Flagstaff Brewing Company, Dark Sky Brewing — keep their own hours, so the night can stretch as long as you want it to.
What "Car-Free First Fridays" means
A centerpiece of the 2026 season: Aspen Avenue closes to cars between Leroux Street and San Francisco Street during the ArtWalk. The open street fills with street performances and pop-up art, which turns the heart of downtown into a walking corridor instead of a traffic dodge.
That closed block runs right alongside Heritage Square, so the two flow together — wander the square, drift down Aspen, and you've covered a good chunk of the night without crossing a street.
Start at Heritage Square
Heritage Square is the hub. Physical maps are handed out there, and in the warmer months it hosts performances and vendors. It's also the easiest meeting point if your group is trickling in at different times.
From the square it's a short walk to Gallery Row on North San Francisco Street, where The Artists' Gallery (an artist co-op going since 1992), West of the Moon Gallery, Fire on the Mountain, and Bright Side Bookshop sit within a few doors of each other. The Orpheum Theater, a 1911 theater, anchors Aspen Avenue, and the Weatherford Hotel on Leroux usually has art and live music going.
One local note: downtown sits at about 7,000 feet, and evenings cool off fast even in July. Bring a layer. A pre-walk coffee from Late for the Train or Firecreek Coffee Company doesn't hurt either.
The July 3 caveat
July's ArtWalk falls on Independence Day weekend — the 4th is a Saturday. The event is on the official calendar, but individual venues set their own holiday plans, and some may close or trim hours that night. If there's a specific gallery you're set on, double-check it the week of. We'll flag changes in our venue directory as we hear about them.
November through April: the honest answer
First Fridays have historically continued through winter in some form — there was a documented December 5, 2025 edition — but hours and format vary, and the 2026–27 winter schedule hasn't been confirmed yet. One third-party listing for that December event showed 5 to 8 PM, so winter nights may run shorter than the summer schedule.
