Downtown Flagstaff packs an unusual amount of art into a few walkable blocks: the densest stretch, Gallery Row at 13–24 N San Francisco St, holds seven art spaces along one short block. From there, galleries and studios spread across Aspen Avenue, Leroux Street, Birch Avenue, and the Southside district across the railroad tracks, with three larger institutions a short drive out. Here's every cluster, mapped the way locals actually walk it.

Gallery Row: seven art spaces, one short block
This is the block that surprises people. The anchor is The Artists' Gallery, a local artists' co-op that has been running since 1992. In the same building, up on the top floor, is Art Loft Collective.
The rest of the row fills in around them: AZ Handmade: Fire on the Mountain Gallery, home to handmade Arizona work at 20 N San Francisco St since early 2020; West of the Moon Gallery; The HeArt Box; Creative Spirits; and Ari's Art Exchange. Seven distinct art spaces on one short stretch of street.
When you need a breather between rooms, Bright Side Bookshop — the indie bookstore on the same row — is the natural reset stop.
Aspen Avenue and Leroux Street
One street over, the action centers on Heritage Square. On First Friday nights it's the hub: the physical maps are handed out here, and in the warmer months it hosts performances and vendors. The gallery stops nearby are Shane Knight Gallery, Up & Coming Boutique & Gallery, and Black Hound Gallerie in the Old Town Shops just north of the square. The Orpheum Theater, Flagstaff's historic 1911 theater, is on the same stretch.
On Leroux Street, the Weatherford Hotel — historic enough to be a destination on its own — hangs art and hosts live music, with Wil McNabb Fine Jewelry Studio on the same street.
Birch Avenue: the studio blocks
Birch is where the scene gets smaller-scale and more personal. Meadowlark Art Studio and Bee Balm Studio are both working studios on the street. On ArtWalk nights the block fills in around them: Next Step Prosthetics opens its doors as a community art stop, Culture Connection AZ takes part, and Dark Sky Brewing's beer garden and Hops on Birch handle the refreshments.
Southside: across the tracks
Cross the railroad tracks south of downtown and you're in Southside, which rewards the extra few minutes of walking. Phoenix Avenue Gallery sits at 2 S Beaver St, and the Clay Center on Mikes Pike is the district's ceramics hub. Make an evening of it: Mother Road Brewing Company, Flagstaff Baking Co, and Awa Kava Bar — an alcohol-free kava lounge — are all in the neighborhood.
Worth the short drive
Three institutions sit outside the walkable core: Coconino Center for the Arts on Fort Valley Rd, the Museum of Northern Arizona, and Hozhoni Art Gallery. They run on their own schedules, so check hours before you drive.
See them all in one night: First Friday ArtWalk
The whole downtown scene opens up at once on the first Friday of every month for the First Friday ArtWalk — free, self-guided, and as of June 2026 running 5:00–9:00 PM officially, with plenty of venues staying open later. Grab a paper map at Heritage Square when you arrive. In the warmer months, watch for Car-Free First Fridays, when Aspen Avenue closes between Leroux St and San Francisco St for street performances and pop-up art.
