George Averbeck

George Averbeck has been blowing glass for more than forty years. Wisconsin-born, he came to Arizona for the Grand Canyon, stayed for a degree at NAU — where one glassblowing class hooked him for good — and trained at the Vail Art Workshops and the Penland School of Crafts. With his wife, painter and muralist Holly Gramm, he has run Arizona Handmade / Fire on the Mountain Gallery since 2010, at 20 N San Francisco St since 2020. Flagstaff's dark skies run through his signature work: the Dark Sky series and Pluto Group vases, and — per the gallery — the glass Pluto Hearts he made for Lowell Observatory's I Heart Pluto Festival, which NASA then requested for two of its mission control rooms.
